What is an Unexpected Act of Creativity?

This is a project aimed at inspiring and sharing creativity. It was created with three things in mind:

  1. We could all use a little more time spent making things and being creative.

  2. We could all use a little more kindness and gratitude in our daily lives.

  3. A dose of the unexpected is good for our creative process.

If you have received an Unexpected Act of Creativity, I encourage you to take part and pass the project onwards. Here’s how:

  • Choose a few friends you would like to share your creativity with. I suggest keeping it under 5, just to keep your creative act manageable.

  • Make a postcard for each person on your list. You could paint on it, write a poem, select a verse, make a collage… what you create is entirely up to you. Maybe you even create something unexpected. The postcards can be the same, or they can all be different. And you can use the term “postcard” to mean whatever you want it to mean - yes you can even ship it in an envelope if you like. The main point is that you will physically ship your Unexpected Act of Creativity. Be sure to note www.unexpectedactsofcreativity.com somewhere on the card, and encourage the recipient to take part

  • Mail the cards to the people on your list.

  • Share! This is a social experiment focused on inspiring creativity and kindness. I would love to see where all the Unexpected Acts of Creativity go, so I would love for you to share with me what you send. That can be done in two ways:

    • Take a picture of one of your cards and email it to me.

    • Physically send me one of your cards. I am hoping to amass a collection of creative work that can one day be shown all together. Email me for my shipping address!

  • If you feel like sharing what you receive or what you send on social media, use the hashtag #unexpectedactsofcreativity

Do you have to receive an Unexpected Act of Creativity in order to take part?
